Michael Mortilla's music has been played by some of the finest musicians musicians in some of the best concert halls to be found anywhere.
In 2006, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra commissioned Mr. Mortilla to compose two new works. Additionally, Michael was invited to perform with the orchestra as piano soloist in one of his earlier works. The orchestra performed the new work, One Week and Easy Street with Michael at the piano. The Chicago Civic Orchestra (the training arm of the CSO) performed Mr. Mortilla's new work, The Haunted House. All performances were conducted by Maestro Richard Kaufman.
Easy Street was initially composed as an all electronic score for The Chaplin Mutuals. Michael was invited to orchestrate the work for full orchestra for the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The resulting work premiered in Symphony Hall, Atlanta as part of the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival. The work has since been performed by several orchestras, including the Harvard Pops Orchestra and the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (NC).
Other performances of Mr. Mortilla's scores have been heard at Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center, NYC), Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, The Great Lawn (Central Park, NYC), The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and elsewhere.
